Our Palmira Pups are looked after as family, meaning, they have free rein of the house and property, no kennels. Using crates and individual yard areas when boys and girls need to be separated. Outside of these times they play, eat and sleep together.

Puppies are given the very best of care from the moment they are conceived. I work with the puppies from a few days old.  Allowing each and every one of them the very best start in life a puppy could ask for.

Labrador Retriever Puppies

From day 3. Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) begins, exposing puppies to controlled minor stressors.  Helping puppies build their resilience in a controlled manner. Scents are also introduced at this stage. Specific smells can be included for future work.

From day 21. Sound desensitisation begins.  Puppies have begun to hear and open their eyes, at this age. Sounds start at a low level and increases daily in volume and time.  Sounds used for exposure are; fireworks; door knocks; barking; baby crying; washing machine, sirens. Some of these sounds are heard regularly, but others not as often. However, for an older dog that has not had exposure, this has the capacity to result in fear, barking, withdrawal.

Puppies are acclimatised to crates or pens, chew toys, recall, waiting and settled time. Toilet training is introduced once puppies are walking themselves, working towards toileting outside.  Helping to make toileting in their new home much easier to teach. As they get older, approximately 5 weeks, puppies are introduced to different environments, animals, and people.

In the later few weeks puppies are exposed to the obstacle challenge, to enhance their thinking and problem-solving skills. Exposure that assists to develop a confident, well-rounded temperament, with the capacity to manage varying stressors as an adult.
